Veterinary Tissue Bank Technician

The Position:
The essential functions of this position are to have primary responsibility for processing of donors, procurement of tissues in our clean room facility, and production and packaging of grafts. This involves being responsible for adhering to standard operating protocols and ensuring necessary documentation is completed; and equipment and sterile supplies are ready and available when processing is planned. Strong attention to detail is required, along with an understanding that accuracy in paperwork is essential. Because most of our bone grafts are produced by hand, manual strength is desirable. The successful candidate will be provided with appropriate training.

  • Responsible for working in our Class 1000 clean room facility producing transplant quality grafts. Must be able to use sterile technique for handling and processing tissues for transplantation. We are willing to train, but experience with animal surgeries or sterile technique is helpful.

  • Maintain equipment such as freezers, saws and other power tools, compressors, sealers, incubators and autoclaves. Ensure operational readiness of facility and equipment.

  • Ability to serve as designated Lead Technician during a procurement, processing or packaging event by ensuring that all SOPs have been adhered to, and product and packaging quality meets established standards.

  • Perform Administrative and Quality duties that ensure processing documentation is accurate, timely, and in conformance with SOPs.

  • Participate in Quality Assurance practices, for example: monitoring quality control tests involving microbiology, and performing equipment qualifications, assist in process validation studies; and other assessments as needed.

  • Occasional interaction with customers, responding to their requests for tissues, understanding their case needs, providing clear, relevant information to assist in determining the best graft available for their case. (training provided)

Requirements:
Motivated and mature. CTBS certification or three - five years of experience in tissue banking highly desirable. BS in Biology or related field or equivalent experience. Experience with QC, SOP's and equipment validation a plus. Comfortable operating various types of equipment / tools. Should be adept in using MS Office, particularly Excel and Word. Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform manual tasks. Must be available for a fixed-day schedule, and able to work extended hours on rare occasions when required

About VTS:
We are a Veterinary Tissue Bank (the world's first!) Like human organ & tissue donor programs, we procure, process, and provide animal tissue grafts for transplant, but our donors and recipients are animals. The majority of our grafts are bone grafts and corneal grafts that are used to help animals with traumatic or chronic injuries, like fractures, or degenerative conditions that can be remedied with transplant tissue. Our clients are veterinarians from all over the world. We provide grafts that they use in their patients. For more information, please visit our website: www.VTSonline.com
