Donors
are the cornerstone of VTS. Without these special
pets, the generosity of their owners, and the
thoughtfulness of veterinary professionals, the
allograft tissue would simply not be available
to help thousands of animal patients. No dogs
or cats are euthanized for the purpose of becoming
donors. Typically, donors in the program come
from local hospitals, which have clients faced
with the euthanasia of their pet due to irreparable
trauma or chronic pain. Animal rescue groups donate
the remains of the animals that must be euthanized
because of intractable aggression. It’s
never easy losing a pet, but many pet owners find
comfort in knowing that other pets will benefit
through their decision to donate.
Thanks to the generosity of the
donors in our area, thousands of pets around the
world have received tissue transplants every year.
